Kitchen Island ideas – How to make your kitchen complete

When designing a new kitchen, the majority of homeowners are looking for an additional space within the house rather than just a place to prepare food in.  Maybe a comfy space with enough seating for the family?  The kitchen can also affect a home’s ‘buyability’, an old or ugly kitchen can result in potential buyers walking away.  A new stylish kitchen will increase a property’s value and will certainly be more enjoyable for the whole family to enjoy, even the 4-legged friends are getting their own built in food stations!

Kitchen layout

The layout of your new kitchen is one of the most important things to consider when you talk to our Kitchens Complete design consultant.  Flooring and colour palettes change, but one design item that has been around for many years is the kitchen island and its popularity isn’t waning anytime soon. If your family spends a lot of time in the kitchen then an island would be a good investment, whether it’s used for entertaining guests, casual dining, food preparation, or for the kids to do their homework on, you certainly won’t regret designing one into your new layout.

What exactly is a Kitchen Island?

It is a freestanding piece of furniture, usually located in the middle of the kitchen, it are versatile and can be hooked up to gas, electricity and plumbing.  The kitchen island has become a necessity in the modern kitchen and provides additional storage and workspace. At Kitchens Complete we have designed kitchen islands with inbuilt refrigerator drawers, hobs, dishwashers, ovens, hobs, storage areas, seating and sinks.  A kitchen island suits any kitchen style, from farmhouse to contemporary, coastal to French, even the stainless-steel design which brings the look of a professional chef’s kitchen to your home.

Kitchen islands come in all shapes and sizes and are tailored to the size of the available space.  When we design your kitchen we will ensure that you can comfortably move around the island by allowing 1.2 m of breathing space around it.  The shape is also important, the majority of islands are square or rectangular, but there is no reason why they cannot be a different shape, maybe L or P shaped?
